Subscribing The process is easy. First, decide if you want to subscribe to the mailing list to standard (receive articles individually) or in digest form (please refer to the Information page if you don't know what the difference between the two are). Click on the either the Standard or Digest link below, depending on which you want to join. And e-mail box from your default e-mail application should pop up. Note: If you use server based email like Hotmail, USA.Net, Juno, etc please go to step 8. Standard on the first line of text type subsingle your@email.address replacing your email address with your email address. For example, if your email address is bill.gates@microsoft.com, on the first line of text you write: subsingle bill.gates@microsoft.com Digest on the first line of text type subscribe your@email.address replacing your email address with your@email.address. For example, if your email address is president@whitehouse.gov, on the first line of text you write: subsingle president@whitehouse.gov Click on the SEND button to send the message trekking out to California where the list server resides. In a few minutes (or hours, depending on how quick the Net is at the moment) you'll receive an email back that wants you to confirm that you really do want to join the list. This makes sure pranksters can't sign unknowing people up to mailing lists. It's a nice feature, really. The e-mail should give you instructions, but basically you just have to edit the REJECT in the subject line and change it to ACCEPT. Click the send button. (Your e-mail program may warn you "Hey, idiot, you didn't edit the text. Do you still want to send it?" Since you do, select yes. Presto! You're on the list! Send a test message or something. Err, wait. Don't do that. We don't need to flood the mailing list with test messages. If you use server based email (Hotmail, USANet, Juno, etc), please send mail to legend-request@lists.best.com, and have subsingle your@email.address as the subject. Now go back to step 2. Okay, I'm subscribed. How do I send messages? You can either reply to the emails you receive from the list, or simply send your message to this address legend@lists.best.com Unfortunately due to the way the mail server works, you must send messages with the email alias you signed up with. So if you signed up with the alias joeblow@generic.com, you must have that as the set email id when you send your messages to the list. Otherwise you will receive a rejection notice from the server. So if you change e-mail addresses, you will need to unsubscribe and re-subscribe again under the new alias. If you run into any problems there's a help sheet at www.best.com/bestserv1.html.
